General Volunteer Positions

Front Table - Sell raffle tickets and T-shirts, hand out pamphlets, answer questions about SRS and robots, direct competitors to contest areas. Robothon committee members will be available to help with questions.

Setup and Tear Down - Help with moving contest equipment and vendor supplies from storage to the main floor and back. (Setup/Tear Down of tables and chairs is taken care of by the Seattle Center.)

Friday Equipment Unload at Seattle Center (6:00-7:00 p.m.)
Saturday Setup at Seattle Center (8:00-10:00 a.m.)
Saturday Tear Down at Seattle Center (5:00-6:00 p.m.)
Sunday Setup at Seattle Center (9:00-10:00 a.m.)
Sunday Equipment Load to truck (5:00-6:30 p.m.)
Sunday Equipment Unload at storage unit (Renton) (7:00-8:00 p.m.)

Photographer - Take digital photos of the contests, display tables, conference room activities, and spectators. Take close-up and wide-angle shots. Turn in a copy of the photos on a CD to the event coordinator.

Contest Volunteer Positions

Combat Robots

This event will be on Sunday, approximately noon - 5:00 pm.

  Judge   Watch the 3-minute matches and determine a winner by a point system based on damage and control. Show up at around 11:30 to review the judging guidelines.

Robo-Magellan

This event will be approximately 4 hours on Saturday morning/early afternoon.

  Organizer   Help with setup, direct other volunteers. Determine the configuration of the course and locations of waypoints/bonus cones.
  Setup /
Tear Down
  Help mark the course and place cones. Set up table and chairs, and the sun/rain tent. After the competition, collect cones and tear down the tent, etc.
  Check-In /
Scorekeeper
  Make sure the robots meet the required size and weight constraints, and have appropriate kill switches installed (starting about 15 minutes before the event). Fill out the scoresheet and advise the Judge which competitor is up next.
  Judge   Time the robots, enforce the rules, and report time, bonus cones, and distance (to the final cone) to the scorekeeper after each run. You must understand the contest and know the rules.
  Crowd Control   Help keep the crowd a safe distance from the robots and out of the path of robots running the course.

MicroMouse

This event will be approximately 1 hour on Saturday morning, with setup Friday evening.

  Determine the configuration of the maze. Set up maze (with assistance) Saturday afternoon. Direct other volunteers.
  Maze
Assembly
  Help with installing walls and posts for the maze, as directed by the contest organizer. This will be on Saturday afternoon, approximately 3:30 - 5.

Scorekeeper
  Make sure the robots meet the required size constraints (starting about 15 minutes before the event). Fill out the scoresheet and advise the MC which competitor is up next.
  Judge   Time the robots and determine closest distance to the end for each run. Report times and distances to the scorekeeper. Enforce the rules. You must understand the contest and know the rules.
  MC   Call contestants to the maze, provide commentary/interviews during runs.

Line Following

This event will be approximately 1 1/2 hours on Saturday morning.

Setup
  Determine the configuration of the line following courses. Assemble line tiles, tape edges together, add black stripes between tiles, clean tiles, etc. Direct other volunteers.
  Check-In /
Scorekeeper
  Check in robot competitors (starting about 15 minutes before the event). Fill out the scoresheet and advise the MC which competitor is up next.
  Judge   Watch robots run the course and perform resets as necessary. Report reset count to the scorekeeper after each run. Enforce the rules. You must understand the contest and know the rules.
  Timer   Time the robots and report times to the scorekeeper after each run.
  MC   Call contestants to the line following course, provide commentary/interviews during runs.

Line Maze

This event will be approximately 1 hour on Saturday afternoon.

  Determine the configuration of the maze. Assemble maze tiles, tape edges together, add black stripes between tiles, clean tiles, etc. Direct other volunteers.

Scorekeeper
  Make sure the robots meet the required size constraints (starting about 15 minutes before the event). Fill out the scoresheet and advise the MC which competitor is up next.
  Judge   Time the robots and determine closest distance to the end for each run. Report times and distances to the scorekeeper. Enforce the rules. You must understand the contest and know the rules.

Walking Robot Race

This event will be approximately 1 hour on Saturday afternoon.

  Measure and record leg length for each of the robot competitors (starting about 15 minutes before the event). Fill out the scoresheet and advise the MC which competitor is up next.
  Judge   Time the robots and determine distance traveled for each run. Report times and distances to the scorekeeper. Enforce the rules. You must understand the contest and know the rules.
  MC   Call contestants to the course, provide commentary/interviews during the competition.

Mini Sumo

This event will be approximately 1 hour on Saturday afternoon, covering both the Beginner and Advanced Mini Sumo events.

  Make sure the robots meet the required size and weight constraints (starting about 15 minutes before the event). Fill out the scoresheet and advise the MC which competitors are up and "on deck."
  Judge   Time the matches, enforce the rules, and determine the winner of each match. You must understand the contest and know the rules.
  MC   Call contestants to the rings, announce on-deck competitors, and provide commentary during matches.

3kg Sumo

This event will be approximately 1/2 hour on Saturday afternoon.

  Replace mini sumo rings with 3kg sumo ring, direct other volunteers.
  Check-In /
Scorekeeper
  Make sure the robots meet the required size and weight constraints (starting about 15 minutes before the event). Fill out the scoresheet and advise the MC which competitors are up and "on deck."
  Judge   Time the matches, enforce the rules, and determine the winner of each match. You must understand the contest and know the rules.
  MC   Call contestants to the rings, announce on-deck competitors, and provide commentary during matches.
